poor cappu & nike shoes

poor cappu had seizures the whole day yesterday. he even had seizures 2 times in a row during the afternoon. this is one of the rare peaceful moments he had lying on my dirty comfy slippers. hope he gets better soon!

on to brighter matters. my still almost new pair of nikes! so pretty. i absolutely love their colour combinations for this series. can't help being amazed by how bendy the shoes are. they are very light and comfy (i'm not so much for heavy cushioning)! got them at 20% off due to the shape run discount i got. i so love them!!!

the pasta place + coffee club

how else to celebrate the last day of school but by pigging out? so after gesl, a few of us (yina, jiaen, caijuan & i) headed to the pasta place by sakae at tiong bahru plaza for some pasta-loving. had a bad encounter with a dishonest, unprofessional and reckless taxi driver from premier taxis, but let's not cloud our delightful delicious moments.

the place was surprising not very crowded. would have expected some lunch crowd leftover when we arrived but there were only a few stragglers. they have a set promotion, which is an additional 99 cents for soup of the day, green tea and ice-cream. it was worth it.

the green tea. first round tasted like water. however when they refilled, the difference in concentration could be noted, probably our first cup was left sitting for a while.

soup of the day: kimchi. it was very spicy and i couldn't help coughing. but you get used to it after a while and it grows on you. lots of mushrooms for mushroom lovers.

i can't remember the name of their dishes. should have taken it down. it was all in japanese and no translation in english. have absolutely no idea what to expect if not for the pictures. we had to ask the waitress to describe the dishes for us.

mine was chicken with this seasoning that usually have with rice in japanese restaurants. it was good and recommended by the waitress. the pasta was garlicy and they were generous with the chicken.

caijuan had a pasta similar to mine but with pork. we both preferred mine. her pork was marinated with lots of ginger and that was definitely a turn off for me.

yina had the soup pasta with seafood. she said it was better than benten's and that's saying something (i love benten)! lots of seafood. she finished her pasta and she still had seafood (prawns, fish, etc) leftover.

braised pork pasta. jiaen thinks it's more like teriyaki but he polished it all off.

the single scoop of vanilla for dessert. they could have served it on a bigger plate. it came up to about $20 per person after service charge and gst. it was a satisfying and filling meal. will definitely go back for more.

xxxxxx

it was coffee club at imm for dinner. the outlet like most coffee club outlet was small and packed. however it was extremely crowded today because it was the last day of the uob 1-1 dining offer. we had to queue for about 20 minutes before being seated.

soft shell crab miso pasta. affordable even without discount, only ($11.80). it's a tad salty according to my sis but she can't deny the lure of that huge chunk of soft shell crab.

chicken wings, tasted like any normal fried chicken wings. nothing special about the seasoning or marinate. but the salad accompaniment was good.

classic caesar salad with a twist. the basket is made of cheese. absolutely love it (basket, not the salad)!!!

garlic prawn pasta. it was pesto and not aglio olio as my parents expected. mum didn't like it, but dad did. i love pesto and i thought it was good.

baked chicken & zucchini rice. love the sauce and cheese. but very little chicken.

apple crumble. more like leaning tower of apple. didn't like their variation. too much apple too little crumble (usually the tart complements it but they decided to do without the tart). it was crumbling by the time the waiter served it to us.

lychee liquor tart (can't remember the exact name). i think this is a unique concoction! the liquor goes very well with the lychee. when topped with the pistachios and ice cream... yummmmmy!!!!

seoul garden

shopping, shopping, shopping. bought so many things and gss hasn't even started yet. all because of pre-gss sale at topshop and river island. zara and mango where art thou? i think i have to control myself! while waiting for my aunt and sis, i went window shopping along citilink and ended up with 2 little black dresses from hynopsis and ztyle. very pretty and cheap!

after that i met up with my aunt and sis for steamboat at seoul garden. they have the ladies special coupon (found on their website, though i think the promotion has ended), which is 50% off the buffet, with FOC free flow of soft drinks. very worth your money, because after taxes, it only came up to $33 for the 3 of us!

my aunt who has never eaten at seoul garden before went a little crazy cooking. she kept cooking chicken and mutton. i didn't even have to lift my chopsticks and there was plenty of food on my plate.

and she was so amazed that they have an ice kachang section with attap seed. she actually told my sis that a bowl was not big enough. thus, her ice kachang was on a plate (so eager she didn't even put any syrup).

also, sign up during the month of may and their membership card is free. usually you have to spend $70 to get a card. the card can also be used at other restaurants under their mother company such as breeks and zingdo.

hortpark

it was hortpark (at alexandra road) today, bright and early! set off from house before 8 to reach there at 9 (butterfly garden open from 9-11 am). not a far walk from the bus stop and if you are heading there from the southern ridges, it will be a nice finale.

the butterfly garden is actually a conservation centre, where they hope to bring back extinct species to singapore. the area is quite small, so for people who are leery of insects, you might feel claustrophobic. but it makes finding the butterflies easy. also it's quite humid in there (i think if you're a singaporean, it should be quite normal).

the staff also provide brochures about the different plants and butterflies you will encounter in the enclosure.

common rose (aristolochiae asteris)

leopard lacewing (cethosia cyane), one of the more common types there.

common tiger (danaus genutia)

common mormon (papilio polytes romulus), very hard to take, they don't keep still.

blue glassy tiger (ideopsis vulgaris macrina)

peacock pansy (junonia almana javana)

lime butterfly (thanks entertainer for that info!)

one thing to note is that you have to eat before going there. there is a cafe, but it's quite measly. no seats, only high tables and they serve only sandwiches and puffs. the price is reasonable but doesn't fill your tummy.

after this opening, the butterfly garden will every last saturday of the month. not very sure about the details though. you can visit the hortpark website for more information.

monsters vs. aliens

please do not watch this movie. it sucks. we watched the normal version (you can choose to watch the 3d one) and the plot was skimpy, characters who were supposed to be monsters were not really spectacular. very predictable.

night at the museum 2

watched the movie with lil on thursday after yoga, courtesy of siyu, who has just changed her job (congrats!) and has exciting offers which she shares with her best friends. it was very impromptu, because siyu only called us before our yoga lesson and we had only 45 minutes after the lesson to bathe, meet her to collect the tickets and reach vivocity.

we were 15 minutes late for the movie and had to sit in the 2nd row (actually we were pretty lucky they even allowed us in). the movie was funny but it wasn't as good as the first one (few are anyway). i felt that they were building on the success of the first and just adding new characters just for the sake of making a second movie. good movie if you have nothing to watch and don't want to think too much. wouldn't watch it a second time though.

after the movie, we made another impromptu decision to have steamboat at bei shan chuan (3rd floor). the soup was very herbal (was only good after we added szechuan vegetable) and the mala soup was really bad. the variety of the dishes were quite big. lil and i concentrated on the beef (very tough) and mutton. they had a lovers cup, which is a gigantic cup of fruit juice (more like syrup water) for $5. it was so huge we couldn't finish it. buffet came up to $13.90++ per person without drinks.

we got some funky masks at the premiere! thanks woman for the tickets. maybe the next time the 3 of us can make it together!

angels and demons

just watched the movie with dad and sis. the movie was about 2 hours. it's a pretty good movie, especially if you like suspense and mysteries. definitely better than da vinci code. bobs said they changed one part of the book which kind of altered the direction of the movie. that said, still enjoyable. but there were a few scenes which were predictable, including the ending.

soup restaurant

dinner at soup restaurant yesterday. food's always good there. they may have little dishes but they specialise in those few dishes and the standard doesn't fluctuate.

their chef recommendation. the chicken's really tender and i hate ginger but the ginger doesn't have any ginger taste! it's really delicious when you dip the chicken in ginger and wrap it in lettuce.

sambal kang kong. it's everywhere but not many places can cook them well. soup restaurant's one is superb. it's not too hot or too salty. just nice.

garlic prawn. i didn't eat this but i tried the sauce. the garlic's a tad strong.

nothing really special about this but it's one of their specialty dishes. sanyu fish. the fish is really fresh. however, it's just steam fish in soy sauce.

same for this. the claypot one is much better.

lunch at swensen's again!

can't get over it and must definitely make good use of it. cheap food at low prices near our school. wow. during our 4 hour break yesterday, the gang decided to head on down to swensen's for lunch and to discuss our project (but look where it got us-- nowhere).

pervert! see why i need a board between us?

bob, anitha, kanch & parv. potential models except for bob, who can't seem to channel the right emotion.

ambiga and me.

parvin's mac and cheese.

kanch's baked rice.

my ribeye, served with ranch sauce. nicely done, would be better if they had pepper sauce.

anitha and ambiga had sambal grilled fish. the sambal's really hot. both who can take lots of chilli, decided to do without.

bobby's beef frank. really huge, but took a long time to prepare.

my yam and frosted chocolate malt with butterscotch sause. swensen's still has the best yam ice cream!

parv's malt milkshake, which got her really happy.

after that, we went back to school for our english class.

where eugene was trying to sell his thai product and elfie was trying to seduce him haha.

love my english class. they are the bomb!
