jpot by jumbo tried something new yesterday at vivocity before our michael jackson movie... jpot! hotpot, similar to steamboat concept, where you cook your own food. it's hidden in the corner at the first floor. take the escalator down from golden village and you're there! the restaurant is pretty huge. probably can seat up to a hundred. each table has its own electrical cooker, some tables with one for each individual, some tables just have one in the middle of the table. in the center of the restaurant is a platform with many sauces. there are the usual few sauces you find in every steamboat restaurant-- chilli, sesame oil, peanut sauce, garlic, etc. here are some which we have mixed and matched! all of us ordered different soup bases. our table had individual cookers. i had tom yam and my sis had porridge (in the background). the tom yam's good. goes with every kind of meat and seafood. since my sis doesn't eat pork and most of the soups are cooked using pork, she had to have the porridge. the porridge is cantonese style and really smooth. my parents had laksa and jpot superior broth. the laksa is a bit diluted, but my mum thinks it's fine. the broth had a very strong pork taste, which i didn't really like. my parents' set for 2. it's was plentiful! my parents took quite long to finish it all. the pork is very tender and well marinated, will definitely order that the next time we visit. my sis's ha-kau (contains shrimps), which she dumped into her porridge. my set b, beef balls and beef strips, with its own basket of vegetables. unlike normal steamboat restaurants, the meat doesn't feel frozen. and upon cooking, it absorbs the flavour of the soup well. look at the amount of food we had! my sister's verdict? yummy! the bill came up to $77 for the four of us, inclusive of the membership card we purchased ($20). so cheap! after that we had dessert at haagen dazs. my sis's cookie crunch, which she couldn't finish. i had to help attack the bottom layers. mum's and my creation. crepe served macademia nut, mango and passionfruit ice cream and a jug of caramel sauce. the mango and passionfruit ice cream is wonderful! seldom do i love fruity flavours and this was so memorable. the flavour is very rich and the combination of mango and passionfruit is delicious! all in all, it was a good day!
