no more miracles

my miracle has finally stop producing miracles. it has been a nice smelling time while it lasted and it did last for very long.

many thanks to my clique (lil, tau, bryan, angelo, bren & whoever who chipped in that i have missed out). still remember that day, during jc2, lil, bren, tau & angelo made a surprise home delivery to my house! and tau, don't think i have forgotten that you wanted the perfume box!

love all the good times:)

coffee bean

had coffee bean's chocolate of a thousand leaves yesterday and couldn't help but feel that the standard has fallen short of my expectations. the cake that i used to crave and love, now seems hard and dry.

tropic thunder

caught tropic thunder yesterday with meiyi, qi, biaoge and sis. it was quite funny, but the humour leaned towards cheap, and was expected more of will ferrell than ben stiller. other than limp bizkit's hot dog, this has got to be the other pop genre that contains the most "fucks" (no wonder it was m18). while the movie was supposed to be situated in vietnam or laos, the asians spoke chinese.

those aside, it contained quite a star studded cast (i couldn't recognise tom cruise), as well as unknowns. robert downey jr was hilarious as lazarus. he was a really convincing black (in the movie, he undergone surgery opposite of michael jackson). to me the funniest charactor was brandon t. jackson's alpa chino, he was the only one who's humour was witty.

you don't have to be intelligent to enjoy this movie. it's a movie to watch when you're having a down day or need a break from deadlines and exams.

xxxxxx

after the movie, we joined peiyi, lilian, grandma, yima, yijiong, biaojie, korkor and baby adrienne at tcc, suntec for a drink. i had lychee tea freeze, which didn't taste like lychee at all. i'm still trying to figure what it tasted like.

we headed to harry's for a bite. it was quite a pity they didn't sell their aglio olio at the suntec outlet. we had the usual finger foods, fajitas and quesadilla, and their signature margaritas! yummy:) thanks peiyi and lilian for the treat!

sewmesomething

i found another interesting blog shop, sewmesomething! sick of getting bags with the same designs and shapes all the time? check out this shop! they sew everything from laptop cases to lens holders to pencil cases.

in fact if you would like, you can actually customise your bag size and design, with the array of fabrics they carry. paddings and wordings may be added with extra charge.

"with personalization service available, it is also an ideal gift for your loved ones."

girls' night out!

yesterday i had dinner at jurong point with my colleagues, caroline, chialin & jackie. it's was jackie's birthday and we decided during lunch time to have an impromptu celebration dinner!

everything was impromptu! we actually decided to eat at the char chan teng downstairs, but ended up trying the newly open benten cafe on the 3rd floor. it was really good. we all attracted by the curry smell waffing out of the kitchen. the portions were a bit small though.

the cafe was really crowded, probably because it had just opened. the service was quite prompt. our waitress was hilarious and very personable. she actually joked with us while we ordered and offered to keep our coffee bean cakes in the fridge while we had our meal.

chialin bought the cakes (choc of a thousand leaves & raspberry white choc cheesecake) as jackie's birthday cakes. it was filling and even though we were sharing, it was still hard for us to finish.

while we were stuffing the cakes down, we noticed that the citibella outlet nearby offered $5 manicure. jackie decided to treat us. we had a fun time choosing colours and gossiping. i had pink lemonade, jackie had baby blue, chialin pearl white and caroline... out all night! haha we couldn't get over that weird name. the manicure was only so-so but we really enjoyed ourselves:)

eyebrow shaping @ bella

decided to try the newly open bella outlet at jurong point basement. my colleagues have been raving about their facial services and i thought, why not just try shaping my brows there?

when you walk into the outlet, you can really feel the soothing atmosphere. i paid $16 up front for the eyebrow service. it was more expensive than jean yip's $13, but it was definitely more worth my money.

i was guided into a private room, told to lie on the bed. the bed even had a comforter. even though i was only there to shape my eyebrows, i was treated very well. the lady put some cotton soaked with nice smelling solution on my eyes. it was only after she wiped my eyebrows and forehead, that she began plucking.

the lady even used some tool to measure that my brows were even. she was really gentle, you dun feel the piercing pain that usually occurs after not plucking for quite some time. after shaping, she put some solution on my face and did a light massage.

i was there for 20 mins. and the whole time i was there, they did not push for any extra services or products that facial places usually do.

the service was really impressive and now it has got me thinking of signing up for the facial package. $388 for 6 detoxification therapies and 6 intense eye treatment. i mean if i'm treated so well for just an eyebrow service, imagine the facial!

for more information, check out their website here.

cryptic

what has happened to the world when an elder sister is made to buy food for her younger sis who chooses to remain at home because she has homework to do? this phenomenon is going to rear its head more frequently in the weeks to come.

the little happyshop

it's time for another blog review! this time it's the little happy shop "home to chic paper goods and other happy practicalities." that is a really apt description that sums up what the shop is about. the japanese-style items range from stationery and paper products such as cards and diaries to bags and lunch boxes.

they are the sole distributors for hum, crinkle co and the paper princess. it is a really cool place to check out if you're looking for one of a kind japanese designs.

dressing

this might seem like a superficial observation or ramblings of a very bored person (the latter actually fits me), but i realised that people do tend to buy more of a specific type of clothes. maybe after many years of buying clothes, you can grasp what kind of clothes suit you the most and choose to purchase that type of clothing.

in my two and a half month in this company, i have noted that my asst manager linda tends to wear sleeveless tops and three-quarters (she's actually quite petite). while, my other asst manager ching yeng usually wears simple yet classy clothes. i, on the other hand, prefer baby doll shirts or dresses. and believe me, since starting work, i have been trying to update my wardrobe and i have been buying lots of baby doll stuff!

my hammies

just realised i haven't been updating pictures of my hamsters for a long long time! so here are the cutie pies.

fatter baby who's a permanent roommate, seeing that she has chewed off her cover and my mum's afraid of hamsters.

lil's long awaited photo of silly billy. isn't he cute? i think he looks like a buddha meditating.

cow cow! always eager to get out of the cage. kinda like a dog, will be waiting for u at the door of his cage whenever someone passes by.

and not forgetting the MIA fatter mummy! whose fat body and gluttony habits will be missed.

sis's 21st birthday party

my sis celebrated her 21st birthday yesterday at sizzler, suntec. i felt that their service was only average, which is way below my expectations. we made a reservation for 25 people, instead of giving us a corner, they squeezed us into a long row of tables. since not everyone knew everyone, it was hard for us to make conversation.

that aside, get ready to be bombarded by pictures. please be forewarned against my photo capturing skills- they are not good!

this is the birthday girl!

sis and i.

my parents and sis. i was trying to capture the sizzler name in the background.

we were early. see what i mean by the long row of tables? and we were next to the entrance and window. what an awkward location.

sis with her ntu friends- miak and jody.

our lovely grandma.

adri, who just celebrated her birthday with her parents, biaojie fu & biaojie.

haha bobo was late and bomu decided to just go ahead without him.

our cuz, weiliang and wanqi. do you see the arm in the background. ya their mother, meiyi, was trying to get into the shot. did not work though! haha

meiyi with weiliang (i dun know why his expressions are a bit weird in the photos).

yeesiang, our camp friend.

sis's secondary school friends- deborah and christie.

this is one of the few pictures with me in it. i was running around taking pictures the whole afternoon.

from sis's jc- hanh (also our fairfax colleague) and matthew.

another jc-mate, gerard.

the angle from the friends' end.

and from the family end.

parental abuse caught on film!

taking a break from all those people, here's my medium rare sirloin steak. it was not bad, portion a bit small. the only thing i liked about my meal was the free flow soft serve ice cream at the salad bar.

luckily kamyao could make it. omg just realised the twins are missing in action.

e fei, my sis's sushi buddy.

peiyi, who managed to make it in time.

here's the birthday girl with her favourite cake from nydc (big-o cheesecake).

so sorry yeesiang ur eyes are closed!

the family photo! thanks biaojie for volunteering ur temporary service as camera woman.

fake blowing of the cake. my sis just blew the candles without any warning so we asked her to pretend.

sis cutting the cake and posing for photo.

adri looking cute and funky with sunglass. omg i just can't get over how cute she is.

my sis mutilating the cake.

that's all! i spent a bundle on my sis this year. hope she appreciates it. anyway, thank you everyone for coming and making the event a success!
