strangepencils it's been so long since i last blogged about a blogshop worth blogging about (wow that's a mouthful). this time i want to introduce strangepencils. it's a quirky shop full of knick knacks and unique finds like ipod hoodies, quad cams (a camera that captures 4 pictures in 1 second and compiles that together) and cupcake mints. however, what's getting me so excited is their latest spree of watches. the watches come in fanciful colours and have designs suited for different individuals. the straps are elastic, so they can fit almost any wrist! i've picked out some of my favourite designs from their collection. ![]() ![]() more details about the watches:
![]() the watches take about 3 weeks to arrive and strangepencils is ordering them in bulks of 7-10 from canada. all watches come with a tin box, pillow and one year warranty. i'm definitely interested in purchasing one but i think i'll wait after my hong kong trip. who knows i might find a discounted branded watch that i like there. ![]() sign up for their mailing list if you're interested in receiving updates from them! bad experience @ thewhiteloft ![]() i have never had to give bad comments about blogshops on my blog. usually, i will be raving about my experiences or the unique finds. however, this time is an exception. i tried thewhiteloft based on beatrice tan's advertorial and found the items there interesting and affordable, so i joined their mailing list. my first attempt at shopping at their website was on 16 april 2010, after they have updated with their latest collection. i saw the item above selling at a very low price of $22. there are many blogshops selling this item, but most of them were selling it at $27. while i feel that the item is indeed common, it is undeniably nice and cheap, so i ordered it. thewhiteloft sent me an invoice later that day (just before midnight), asking me to to transfer the money within 48 hours, which is double the time limit of normal blogshops. i was really impressed with the effort they are going to make their blogshop customer-friendly. i transferred the money this morning at 10am, well within the time limit given. however, this afternoon, i received an email, saying: Hi dear, this is really horrible service. it is normal blogshop etiquette to hold an item for the stipulated time in the invoice for the customer. if the customer doesn't pay within the time frame, he/she will be blacklisted and the item will be given to the next person on the waiting list or open to the public again. i requested for a refund and to be taken off the mailing list. this was their reply: We sincerely apologise for this mistake on our part due to miscommunication with our supplier. It is indeed our fault for overlooking the situation. We're sincerely sorry about this fiasco and would like to offer you a $5 discount if you make any future purchases as part of compensation. We hope to see you again. you know what they say about making first impressions. it's a pretty good save to retain customers but i'm not sure whether i can trust their service again. off with the head i'm officially removing covet runway off my recommended list of blogshops. i really loved the items in the beginning (under gege.livejournal.com). the owner's style was nice, items unique and quality was assured. furthermore, the shop was adventurous in colours, prints and design. however, in the later posts, the style began to change. more clubbing wear, almost leaning towards trashy. the move away from livejournal to official dot com was the final straw. each updates had only limited items and they were common items you can see even at budding blogshops. in addition, the server constantly has problems and order process long and tiresome. it's such a pity. consequently, with the numerous blogshops available now online, i think it is really important to remain competitive and not slack off just because you have become an established shop. in fact, as an established shop, people would have higher expectations of you. light my room in my spare time at work (which is plenty), i came across this funky online clothes shop/blog. i have actually visited many online shops which sell pretty much mass-produced stuff. light my room on the other hand actually sells unique beachy apparels which you do not see on other websites. the owner also displays the outfit on a mannequin figure and pairs it up with accessories. it makes it easier to envision how the clothes would look like and gives you ideas on how to match ur outfits. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() to visit the site, click here.
