ju shin jung we found an authentic korean restaurant, ju shin jung, along west coast highway. coincidently, it was the restaurant that my colleague had been raving about. rice water and iced water are provided free flow at $1 per person. i didn't try the rice water, but my sis seemed to be unable to get enough of it. all these dishes are just side dishes. they were not part of what we ordered. if you come in a party of 4, the side dishes are given free. if not, you pay $1 for round plates and $2 for oval plates. i'm not so much for vegetables, being a carnivore and sweet-tooth myself, i only enjoyed the mashed sweet potatoes and the mini pumpkin pancakes. this is the huge dish of vegetables you use to wrap your meat in. there are many different kinds of leaves here (not so sure about the names though), but it will satisfy you whether you prefer western salad kind or those used in chinese cooking. my sis tossing her bi bim bab. she dumped in all the chilli and it was so hot i could only grab a few bites. the serving was quite big, so we shared. now for the good stuff, we ordered beef short ribs and marinated chicken. the meats were quite expensive, ranging from $20 to $60 depending on the cut. the servings were small and unless you are an omnivore, you'll still feel hungry after the meal. you don't have to worry about getting your hands dirty as the waitress will cook the meats for you. overall, the beef was a bit tasteless and fat, but the marinated chicken is recommended! it's a bit sweet and very juicy. these were the paper towels, which i didn't know what they were in the beginning. you have to add water to let it expand. don't add too much or they will be soaking wet and dripping all over the table. the ravages of our meal. complimentary tea and fruits are provided at the end of the meal. the tea was served cold and too sweet for my liking (and i'm a self proclaimed sweet-tooth). my father had his, my sis's and mine. lovely watermelon hearts. the meal cost us $88.30 for 4 people. it's ok considering that the side dishes are complimentary. however, if my party was less than 4, i would not go back for a second round. i was not full and had to go to macdonald's drive-thru after the meal. for more information, check out their official website. |
