nowhere boy it's rather trying when my sis and i go out for a movie because our tastes are quite diverse. hers runs to arthouse and horror films, while i go for light-hearted, albeit brainless, comedies and chick flicks. this week was no different, after debating over the different genres, we settled on nowhere boy, a movie depicting john lennon's growing years. ![]() the movie was informative and showed a personal side of the founding member and lead singer of the biggest band in the 1960s. it was also unnecessarily sexually explicit at certain points. however, i thought kristin scott thomas, who portrayed aunt mimi was superb. her facial expressions remained dour but she could really convey the emotions through her eyes and body language. ![]() sam taylor-wood, the director shown here with aaron johnson, the leader actor. while nowhere boy was taylor-wood's directorial debut, she has won awards for her artwork. while i was in England, i saw her piece 'sleeping' featuring david beckham in the national portrait gallery. in the video clip, beckham was just literally sleeping. a juicy gossip: apparently johnson, who is 20 years old, is engaged to taylor-wood who is 43. they had a son together july this year. the idea of someone marrying a person 20 years younger is repulsive to me, be it an older guy or lady. sometimes you can't help but wonder how some actors get their roles and whether there are better and more deserving actors who could have taken on the part. |
