wonderful lunch at dozo had lunch at dozo, valley point shopping centre today. it's a jap-french cuisine. i was very impressed by the service right from the start, from the point of making my reservation. the guy actually asked if the meal was for any special occasion, which it was - my mum's birthday. and he said he'll give us a private room. the room was nicely decoarated and the whole atmosphere while elegant, was not very formal. thus, we could enjoy ourselves, without minding decorum. the head waiter actually went through the whole menu with us. told us what was recommended and he was very jovial (totally could clique with my mum). we started off with chilled mango sorbet refresher. not too thick and absolutely thirst quenching. next was the starter (pre-arranged)- salmon, scallop and foie gras. this was the order we were supposed to eat the dish. i didn't have any, but my family loved all three. my mum polished off her scallop and my sis said the salmon was the best. it was unique and had a minty taste. next came the sashimi platter. only my dad and mum had the cold dish because they had the 7-course menu, while my sis and i had the 6-course one. my dad was disappointed they didn't have ebi (prawn), as was shown on the website, but he really liked the yellow herring with the roe. for the side dish we basically tried a variety from the menu. i had the stewed beef tendon japanese style. i didn't really like tendons, so the head waiter arranged for it to be mostly meat. very tender and juicy. the sauce was terrific. my sis had the foie gras chawanmushi topped with black truffle slice. it was so good, she didn't share. both my parents had the escargots with yuzu butter. as opposed to general restaurants which use garlic butter, they adopted it to their japanese style. they gave my parents an extra escargot by the side. next was the soup. dad and sis had the crab bisque, which you should only have if you LOVE crab, it was very thick. my mum didn't care for it (just as well she didn't order that), but my sis thinks it just nice. mum and i had the cepes mushroom with truffle soup. if you like the mushroom at soup spoon, this would be one for you. every bite is filled with bits of mushroom. after that, we had our main courses. sis had the sake infused grilled unagi on hot stone. the guy told my sis to lean back while he poured the sake and it obvious why. but my sis couldn't really taste the sake. the rest of us had the beef tenderloin on puye & granite hot stone. the tenderloin was a bit fatty but it tasted so juicy and infused with puye after cooking over the stone. very good! my dad prefers the hot stone beef we had at macau (he's more of a huge beef steak kind of person). the waiter came in with a surprise! a cake for my mum. i can't help but rave about the service here. it is the bomb! they are very particular about details and really do everything they can to make your meal a dining experience to be remembered. next came the drinks. we had different fruity concoctions (fruity refresher, grapefruit glory and apple melody) and they were all good. it's is really sharp of them to have an all-inclusive menu by including drinks. also, instead of serving plain water, they have some sort of hot flowery tea. and while i don't like drinks of that sort, i was literally gulping it. you'll have to excuse my pictures for the dessert because they are not really nice. the head waiter gave us all 6 of the desserts to try because we were their first customers of the day. mochi served with red bean and ice cream. my dad really loved this (and he seldom gives his approval, which shows how good it is). warm chocolate cake served with ice-cream. it is actually a lava cake- chocolate oozes out when you eat it. this is an unanimous dish that we all liked. napoleon of red bean and yam. very unique. the yam filling was something we never had before. i thought it would be like orh-ni, but it's not. something lighter. we didn't really like the white sesame panna cotta with black sesame ice-cream. the ice-cream had some crunchy fizzy thing in it that spoils the taste and we never cared for panna cotta, so this might be biased thinking in the first place. french cheese cake. not too cheesy or creamy but too small! lastly the green tea creme brulee. none of us enjoyed this dish, except for the caramelised sugar on top. the 6-course menu costs $39.80++ and only available during lunch time. the 7-course costs $59.80++, available during lunch and dinner. the extra dish is from the cold dish section. you have several choices from each section. check out www.dozo.com.sg for more information. and guess what? we already made reservations for my birthday at the end of the month!
