beishanchuan spicy steamboat restaurant this is my second time back to beishanchuan for some ma la steamboat. the first time was with lil after hot yoga and a movie premiere. it was satisfying then and it still hits the spot now. the restaurant is just an escalator's ride away from the golden village movie theatres at vivocity. situated on the third floor, it is tucked into a corner behind diaso and king louis grill & bar. the buffet bar, which comes with an adequate variety of food, is near the entrance. a spacious restaurant with high ceiling, there is no need to squeeze around tables to get your food. similar to most steamboat restaurants, you get to choose two kinds of soup. we were spoilt with choices as the restaurant offers six types of soup--seafood, chicken, laksa, hot & spicy, tom yam and one more i can't recall. between the three of us, we chose chicken and hot & spicy. other than raw food, they have a selection of cooked food, ranging from fried chicken wings to black pepper crab. one thing unique about the restaurant is that instead of free flow of drinks that most restaurants have, they have this humongous cup called 'lovers' cup', which is just $2 more than the usual cup size. we did manage to finish it (the first time lil and i couldn't even drink half)! my verdict? not a place for quality food, but if you are starving, not fussy about how superior your food is and have a sudden desire for steamboat, this is the place for you. it's cheap and has a never-ending supply of food. following the dinner, we went for our movie--salt. an action-packed movie, featuring the a woman as the central figure. some of the stunts were inconceivable (meaning it's hard to imagine a woman accomplishing so many stunts) but that was its appeal for me. salt was amazing in her superwoman-like capacity. there will definitely be a sequel coming up. you'll know why if you catch the movie.
