bali thai @ orchard another gathering for my fun bunch of colleagues at ion orchard this time round. really thankful to be posted with the four of them to the same school and that we get along so well together. too bad dear ahmad couldn't make it today. today's purpose of meeting at bali thai was to celebrate delvin's birthday, albeit a belated one! huda and ivy. think ivy was trying to show off her manicure but it's not really visible haha. me and the birthday boy, delvin, and a kikki.k advertisement! everytime i go to ion, i will definitely pop into kikki.k and buy something and this time it was no different. other than getting delvin's pressie, i got some awards for my students too. featuring my honey lemon sour plum ice blended in the foreground and huda's honey lemon drink. it is pretty obvious from the colour seen in the picture that i couldn't taste any honey lemon at all. chicken tom yum soup. i made them order chicken because i do not eat seafood and the three of them were saying this was their first time having tom yum soup served with chicken, as normal people have them with seafood. the soup was sour and not too spicy. one of the rare tom yum moments when i do not have to douse any fire in my throat with lots of water. huda and ivy insisted i try the stuffed chicken wings. i've been to bali thai before but i have never ordered this dish. the wings are boneless and stuffed with minced meat. it had bits of crunchy vegetables in the mix, interesting but normal fried wings are still the best. huda's green curry with rice. the thick green gravy is drool-inducing. my customised noodles. chicken fillet with glass noodles and garlic pepper sauce. excluding the fact that it was huge and the serving of chicken generous, the noodles were oily and got a bit repulsive after a while. ivy's beef with basil rice. delvin's meal. i forgot what he ordered, but it smelt really good. the set came with rice and keropok. we stayed and chatted for a while until we realised that the restaurant was getting packed and there were people waiting for tables. we quickly paid our bill and left. then it was cedele for desserts.. we went to the concierge at ion and asked if he could recommend any good place for dessert and i had him stumped! he offered us a food directory and we couldn't settle on anything. then huda suggested cedele at wheelock. huda and delvin went straight for the ice cream while ivy and i took a longer time to peruse the menu. ivy's cake of the day, blueberry hazelnut. blueberries laced the bottom of the cake and there was a generous topping of diced hazelnut on top. my wonderful apple cinnamon pancake with the not so appealing pear riesling wine ice cream. i wanted to try a new flavour, apart from my favourite caramel sea salt, and it was a total flop. however, my friends were amazed by my ability to polish off the whole dessert after such a filling dinner. my stomach has always been very accommodating, it always makes space for dessert no matter how full it is. happy belated birthday, delvin! |
