whole day in town!

it feels good to be finally able to say that i spent my whole sunday in town! it was dad's birthday yesterday and we got together with my mum's side to celebrate qi's birthday (18 november) as well. i scoured long and hard for a good lunch location and chose angus house @ takashimaya as i had always wanted to try it and it was rather pricey for a student's allowance.

the restaurant is accessible through takashimaya departmental store on the fourth floor. angus house has a white exterior and presents a clean and classy atmosphere.

we were promptly shown to a private room, off the main dining room, for our lunch. it was cosy, completed with warm ceiling lights and comfy arm chairs.

we browsed through the lunch menu. the food was rather expensive, especially since i was craving for a steak. the grilled tenderloin lunch set which came with soup, salad, main course and dessert started from $40+ (depending on weight of steak).

clam chowder.

creme of corn. both soups had little substance. my sis was grumbling about the fact that there was no clam in her soup.

the salad was also average. the salad dressing tasted like a combination of diluted soy sauce and sesame oil.

slipping in a picture of my nephew's butt. found his pants very interesting that day!

the only thing i could rave about is the steak. the beef was very tender and while it was served on a hot plate, it didn't affect the doneness of the steak. usually when i order medium rare on hot plate, it will arrive medium, but it was not the case. my dad was equally impressed by the standard of the tenderloin.

the rest ordered variations of pasta with abalone. the sauce was light, akin to thick stock. my mum enjoyed it, but the rest found it a bit tasteless.

birthday cake, flair lady from polar. sponge cake layered with cream and covered with white chocolate.

dessert chocolate ice cream, which my niece kept for herself.

tiramisu. it was a very small portion! nicely decorated and accompanied with pieces of fruits. the dessert was good, just too tiny.

saw this huge toy hamster playground! wonder if i can adapt it for my hammies.

sis and i then went for our movie due date at cineleisure. the movie was hilarious though some parts were too explicit (seems like a growing trend with hollywood movies). i really admired downey's tolerance towards galifianakis' character. not a movie i'll watch again, but it was rather enjoyable for that moment.

dinner was yakisoba from the food kiosks at the basement of ion, together with bubble tea and the popular takopachi. now, the takopachi is sold in sets of four instead of six, which is so much easier to finish. the yakisoba tastes like "japanese mee goreng", exact quote from my sis. it was costly, about $6 and nothing really awe-inspiring.
