cambodia day 2 (siem reap) the second day was a big day! angkor thom (big capital) and angkor wat (capital temple) at 8.30am. was really excited. there was a board of rules and regulations at the entrance. price for 1 day pass was 20USD, 3 days 40USD and a week for 60USD. see the second picture? most people think the whole compound is called angkor wat, however angkor wat is only the small rectangle at the bottom. the bigger compound is angkor thom. it was angkor thom exploration before lunch and angkor wat after. we paid 1USD/person for 5 pictures with them. it was quite a good deal because they had many different poses and angles taken were good. elephant terrace. carvings of elephants along the wall surrounding the old palace. this is a gigantic spider we saw along the way. restorations done by india-cambodia partnership. huge trees at the ta prohm temple. think that's where they filmed tomb raider. had a break for lunch at the red orchid restaurant (next to old market). one of the meals i really enjoyed. the servings were huge and the smoothies were good (and nicely decorated). after lunch, back to exploration at angkor wat. this part was closed because many people fell off the steep staircase (75 degrees). unlike the other flights this one had no stops in between (quite dangerous). our climb up the mountain to see the sunset, which sadly was covered up by the dark clouds (was drizzling). it was a tiring climb, can even be classified under trekking. parv & i were not equipped, we were wearing slippers. according to our guide, to actually explore the compounds, you need about 3 days. for me, a day was more than enough. as you can tell, i couldn't even differentiate the names of the buildings here. be prepared when you go there. wear long pants. i wore three-quarts and i had lots of mosquito bites. also, wear sport shoes because there are a lot of trekking and climbing to be done. the place is very crowded (all day) and it's hard to get a picture without people in it. |
