where to eat for dad's birthday? in my annual quest for a good steak house as my father's birthday treat, i came across several recommendations via online forums. i'm skipping the big names like angus, mortons and lawry's. 1. les bouchons rive gauche @ robertson quay sister restaurant to l’angelus, which is a pretty pricey restaurant. based on the reviews at hungrygowhere, les bouchons rive gauche is about $67-75/person. however, it seems like other than the wonderful "tender beef fillet," nothing else is up to expectations. i have my sis to think of since she doesn't eat beef. someone recommended the grilled tiger prawns, which are de-shelled. the restaurant is open mondays to saturdays, from noon to 2pm and 7 to 10pm. recommended: beef fillet, $36, comes with salad and free flow of fries photo: yebber.com 2. stuart anderson's black angus steakhouse @ orchard parade hotel the price range seems reasonable, about $33.90 for 225 g or $35.90 for 280 g for the rib eye. wineanddine recommends the fillet, but offers no price. with every main course, you have a choice of garden salad, coleslaw, baked potato soup, stuart steak soup or soup of the day. this is in addition to steamed vegetables with baked potato, garlic mashed potatoes or french fries. their website looks dated. even information available online and their awards seem to stop at 2006. quite leery about trying this. photo: streetdirectory.com 3. long bar steakhouse @ raffles hotel strongly recommended at expatsingapore, i reckon those expats would know what they are talking about and understand what a good steak entails. the restaurant is located on the second floor of the hotel and reservations are advised. steak is served with salad and fries and while the tenderloin is grilled perfectly, the ribeye is thin and presumably dry. later reviews at hungrygowhere and yum.sg mentioned that service standard is declining. another highly recommended steakhouse is the coq and bull rotisserie and grill, however i couldn't find any information about it. expatsingapore did put it across as quite expensive, so i guess it's just this three contenders for 2009! |
