hong kong day 2: lamma island and sogo

since parv and i are early risers and matt and my sis were usually late, we went exploring and found this awesome and cheap breakfast place just up the street from our hotel. let me just gush about the location of jj hotel again, you can find almost anything around where we stayed.

this was good for parv, who's a muslim. we had chee cheong fun, which was vegetarian, and soybean drink for only hk$10! it was filling and yummy. a tad different from the ones we have here, the rolls were wrapped more tightly and were more substantial. we brought sis and matt to try later.

next, we went to the pier near central mtr station to take the ferry over to lamma island. we had to walk through ifc mall again to get to the pier. be sure to check the timings before because we had to wait for about an hour before the ferry arrived.

you can use your octopus card almost everywhere! we used it for our ferry ride. it's really cute because as you tap your card, there is a counter above which counts down the passenger capacity of the ferry.

it was a long and vomit inducing ride over to the island. by the time we reached, my legs were wobbly and i didn't have appetite for anything.

the most memorable thing about lamma island (other than shopping) is that it is a dog island! there were people who brought their dogs on board the ferry and once we docked, you could see a parade of dogs and their owners. even while walking along the streets, you would meet people sitting outside restaurants, with dogs resting at their feet. not exactly a great place for muslims.

one of our favourite shops on the island, all of us brought things from here. tees, dresses and pouches. the lady speaks english and her boyfriend's from singapore! there were other shops selling souvenirs and bohemian dresses. we spent a lot of money on the island and when i got on the ferry a second time, i was left with less than half the amount i brought to hong kong. and that was a lot!

we ate a late lunch at this seafood restaurant. DO NOT PATRONISE THIS PLACE! they tried to rip us off by serving us fish that wasn't fresh. we were paying a high price for live seafood and when they served us our pomfret, the eyes were sunken and the meat was tough. obvious signs of stale seafood. they wanted to charge us hk$188 for it! can you believe it?

we were still on a shopping high and while lunch did dampen our moods, we were still happy about our buys. we headed to sogo after that. the escalators just kept going up, it was never ending. think there's 16 floors! we gave up after a while and went to the basement for dinner. while sis and matt found theirs in the supermarket, parv and i had ours at curry bee.

see parv's kate spade bag? she went there twice and both times she bought something!

the restaurant is located at the bottom of the escalator. you could literally smell the curry a floor away. it's one of the best japanese curry i have ever had. that's all for day 2 :)
