hong kong day 3: street markets

finally got to drinking the first blush grape juice i bought at the japanese supermarket at ifc mall on the first day of the trip. not sure if they sell these in singapore, but if they do, i'm going to stock them in my fridge! there were actually 4 flavours but i just got 3 to try (they are not very cheap)--chardonnay, cabernet and merlot.

although they take the names of wines, there is no alcohol in them at all. all the juice comes in a deep purple shade. according to their website, the darker the purple, the more antioxidant the juice has, which is a good point! the juice is rich and sweet. they leave a very nice after taste. probably the best grape juice i have ever tasted.

on to the events of the day...

first we took bus 260 to stanley market from central (below ifc mall). the bus is a special bus, it's an express bus, which meant that we got there in half the time compared to that of a normal bus. of course that also meant that we paid more, but it was worth the ride. the drivers navigated the the curves and slopes at high speed with ease. in my opinion, they could try for formula one :) my sis thinks they have special buses and their best drivers for this route.

after a smooth and scenic ride, we finally reached stanley!

since it was on elevated ground, the weather was cooling and there were occasional breezes. the whole culture there reminded me of western countries, with pricey high rise along the coast and cafes dotting the seaside. parv and i strolled along the pavements and took our time to enjoy the sights.

didn't really buy much there, as i felt that i could find the same items at cheaper prices elsewhere. however, i loved the surroundings and wouldn't mind spending half a day just sitting at a cafe, sipping my tea and watch people walk by.

after spending the better part of the morning and a bit of the afternoon there, we took the express bus back to central. along the way, parv and i spotted our future home! dream home, more like it.

the lily at repulse bay. right along the seaside. it's going for a few millions :( parv and i think we can only afford it only if we stick to the profession all the way to retirement and this would be our retirement home.

we went back to our hotel to take a nap before heading out on the mtr to mong kok station to ladies market and jordan station for temple street night market respectively. didn't take any pictures as it was very crowded and i was worried about pickpockets. i had been to the markets before during my previous visit to hong kong. great places to buy souvenirs and small trinkets.

we decided on cafe de coral for dinner. it's a common hong kong cafe chain and you can find it at most areas. they offer satisfying set meals at affordable prices and definitely helped us with our budget tremendously.

i loved their roasted meat set. came with char siew, sausage, soy chicken, salted egg and vegetable on a plate of rice. that huge place of rice was accompanied by an egg plant appetiser and taro soy bean milk tea with pearls. yummy! when we went back for a second time later in our trip, i had the soy chicken again!
