grill-out, buttercake n cream & bibigo this post was so long i was very tempted to split it into two! last weekend, i went to grill-out at sunset way (yes, again) for lunch. my parents seem to be fixated on trying every restaurant in sunset way. the restaurant only has outdoor seating! and now we know why sunset way is always packed for dinner but almost empty during lunch time. it's so hot and stuffy we tried their lunch special of $23 for two. with any order of four main courses, each person gets a free lemonade and soup of the day. soup of the day: mushroom soup. kind of gelatinous, but rather appetising. the lemonade was thirst quenching, refreshing and a warm welcome from the heat. on to the main courses... grilled swordfish. probably the chewiest fish we have ever eaten. it was too rubbery. wasn't sure if it was meant to be that way (aka the texture of the fish) or just bad cooking. beef ribs. one word--horrendous! so tough and overcooked. almost like tasteless pork ribs after being cooked in chinese soups. prawn aglio olio. first aglio olio which isn't spicy! mum talked to the cooked and apparently they do not add chilli unless you ask for it. what kind of aglio olio is that? other than that, the pasta was perfectly done. then we went for dessert next door at buttercake n cream. this place in contrast to it's neighbour has indoor (air-conditioned) seating and great food. one of their specials is the tiramisu, which was sadly unavailable that day. one of their many decadent sundaes, berry berry good, which was aptly name because it was very very good! and a definite two thumbs up... their warm chocolate pudding! a mix between a souffle and chocolate lava cake. the chocolate overflows the moment you break the top and it's so sinful! sis and i took a train down to city hall to catch our movie, meet the parents little fockers. hilarious and for a third movie, stupendous effort! many original jokes and the partnership of robert deniro and ben stiller is still an explosive one. following that, we hit the stores in city hall before heading for dinner at one of the new restaurants at the basement of raffles city. bibigo, a korean restaurant, has recently opened a branch here. they have three in korea. the managerial staff there are korean and they demonstrated their knowledge of food by going through the menu and what were popular among singaporeans. vitamin water, think i'm going to stock up on these. mild taste, almost like drinking water with some flavouring, provides 50% of required vitamin c and 25% of vitamin b. bibimbap, a twist from the usual kind, with a choice of rice, filling and sauce. my sis wished she had gotten the spicy sauce, as she felt it would have gone better with the hot plate meal. the restaurant provides fresh lettuce to wrap the rice in. i had the beef vermicelli, very tasteful and comes with loads of vegetable. bigger than i expected, as it was an appetiser. will bring my family back to try! |
