baguette @ vivocity

baguette took over the french deli my mum used to love patronising. similar concept of a quick bite and takeaway, this viet inspired deli takes up a little corner of vivocity.

we got there at 9pm and was surprised to see a 'closed' sign, even when the place explicitly states that closing time is at 10pm. we pointed it out and while we were told that they were still 'opened', the staff didn't really seem to welcome business and kept hinting to us that they would be cleaning up soon.

wow, what an appalling first impression even before i ordered my meal. it was also my first time experiencing a restaurant which doesn't want customers.

the deli only accepts cash. out total bill came up to $33.

i thought that the lights were interesting, as they were made of coffee strainers. however, they were not switched on.

front: apple tea; back: lime soda. the apple tea got a bit nauseating after a while. on the other hand, the lime soda, which was recommended, was very refreshing.

6 inch mushroom baguette.

6 inch saigon baguette.

4 inch saigon baguette. boy was it tiny, slightly larger thant the bun you get with the soup of the day at other restaurants and i was paying $3.80 for it!

the price wasn't very reasonable for bread with little fillings and lots of vegetables, but the baguettes were delicious! i'm not kidding. this carnivore ate all her vegetables! the sauce was a bit sour and very appetising.

for desserts, we had the chocolate cake, which was very rich. almost like a brownie.

and a must-try and certainly interesting choice, pulut hitam cake. the soft sponge cake was layered with that thick sinful local dessert. two thumbs up!

overall verdict: a slightly overpriced viet inspired deli with awesome desserts, which needs to work on its customer service.
