day 4: jogja to bromo day 4 was basically a travelling day for us. similar to the tour to dieng plateau, we booked our 2 day 1 night tour to bromo, a mountainous area, with ari. one way journey to bromo is about 10 hours. you can choose to either return to jogja or head to bali after bromo. since we had to fly back to singapore from jogja, we chose a round trip. before the driver picked us up at 9am, we had breakfast in the lobby. breakfast consisted of 2 slices of bread with chocolate rice sprinkles and a cup of tea/coffee. not filling at all. we sat in the mini bus for about 4 hours, then stopped for lunch at this overpriced restaurant. we were very hungry due to the measly breakfast, but the driver refused to stop at roadside stalls for us to eat. he insisted we wait until he got to the restaurant. we were really frustrated with him. what's more, the restaurant charged us 10% tax on top of the already insane prices. we drove for another 6 hours before stopping at another tour operator. we didn't know beforehand that we had to change another bus to get to the foot of the mountain. so after the 10 hours of butt numbing ride, we had to wait 45 minutes for the other bus to pick us up. the second bus was old and rusty and about 13 of us had to squeeze in together. the climb to yoschi's guesthouse took about 45 minutes. it was chilly at the guesthouse. we had to dig out our sweaters. in spite of the cold weather, i have to say i love my room at yoschi's! it was really spacious and clean. there was a sitting area in front of the partitioned sleeping area and the toilet, while no hot water, was spotless. we ate at the restaurant in the hotel. the food was delicious and they put in effort into the presentation of food! they are actually famous for their potatoes. almost all of us had potatoes. their hot tea with honey warmed its way down my insides and their pancakes are yummy! slept immediately after all that hot food because we have to get up at 3am the next day. the last thought before going to bed was: was all these worth it? the 11 hours journey, the horrible driver who kept smoking and switching off the aircon and the expensive lunch? |
