day 6: jogja

our last full day in jogja! after the night ride, we reached jogja at 4am. prior to leaving for bromo, we booked rooms at malioboro palace hotel for 288,000rp (sgd$42), which is a newly renovated hotel just off jalan malioboro. we fell in love with the rooms the moment we saw them. very central location. according to the owner, they would give us a super early check in at 5am.

however, when we got there, they did not keep the rooms for us. we were made to stay in their standard rooms which were gross. i thought nothing could be worse than asia afrika hotel, but they just proved me wrong. there were no toilet seats, the flush didn't work and the sink emptied onto your feet.

it was around noon that they finally gave us our superior rooms. it was like opening the door to a whole new world. everything was spick and span and smelled lovely. the rooms even had lcd tvs. we should have stayed here the whole time we were in jogja. who in the right mind would pay 188,000rp (sgd$28.20) for their standard rooms?

after settling in comfortably into our rooms, we went for lunch just a few blocks down from our hotel. the restaurant gave a very beachy like feeling and the food was one of the better ones we had the whole trip. one thing you have to try is the avocado milk shake. i'm still missing it.

we walked off our meal by going souvenir shopping at jalan malioboro. it was unbearably hot (yes, that is a singaporean speaking). about an hour later, i was so sticky i wasn't in any mood to shop. i was just dragging my feet along.

we took an aircon break at the shopping centre opposite jalan malioboro which i can't remember. had jco mini donuts. soft and sweet! very affordable too! only 49,000rp (sgd$7.35) for 24 mini donuts. we got to try almost all the flavours. but what wowed was the yoghurt. they had a special promotion for the sharing portion. 2 generous scoops of yoghurt and 4 toppings for 35,000rp (sgd$5.25). mum and i were full after sharing one. can't imagine how my sis and aunt could fit in 2!

dinner was a the basement of the shopping mall--anjana. the whole restaurant had no proper ventilation, so we just smelled of deep fried food after eating there. the oil smell was so overpowering. the food was below average, except for their special nasi timbel ikan, which was sold out real quick.
