my cny eve(s) @ holland village side-note: super long post. crammed two days worth of photos into one, just in case i am too lazy tomorrow to blog. day 1: tuesday went to amici yesterday with dad and mum to utilise my other bigdeal.sg voucher. i paid $54 for $90 worth of vouchers and after eating, i just needed to top up an addition of $9. bigdeal.sg does offer wonderful deals. it was terribly dark inside the restaurant. i didn't use flash because it was so dark a flash would be attention seeking. had to brighten the food pictures manifold. i tried their award-winning sliced beef (can't recall or even pronounce the name). it was served with arugula salad and doneness was perfect (medium rare). we went over to everything with fries for dessert. can't get enough of the wonderful butterscotch pudding. we decided to try something new as well, their recommended pear tart. it was terribly sweet. in fact, almost every dessert of theirs could be categorised as such. day 2: wednesday had cny celebrations today at school. most of us were in the festive mood and dressed up in either traditional costumes or auspicious red. i wore my lovely lovebonito cheong sam style top today! many of my colleagues said i looked good. surprisingly, the top fitted exquisitely. i would have worn it on the first day of cny if it was in a brighter colour. later, my family went to holland village again for dinner with mike and joyce. holland village was rather empty. most of the food places were closed compared to the day before. majority of the people there were foreigners. i guess most of the locals were holed up in chinese restaurants for their reunion dinners. anyway, we tried a new mexican place el patio, right next to chachacha. their reviews were consistently good compared to chachacha which had really good and really bad ones. their signature margarita served in a jam jar. they offered assorted flavours like lime, blueberry, lychee, mango and strawberry. loved the lychee one! the meal was delightful. however, i felt that there were things they could improve on e.g. huger servings of salsa and guacamole, better awareness of customers' needs. that said, their desserts were delicious! rather affordable ($7.50) and very filling!
