club chinois, not so good weather's really humid today. couldn't stay in a room without fan or aircon, can't wait for the weather to cool down some. mothers' day weekend brunch at club chinois today. dad's treat. it was the normal ala-carte buffet, plus shark's fin and live station (foie gras, tenderloin and peking duck). first, saw this flower outside pan pacific. pretty huh? my sis always complain that i don't take nice pictures of her. proved her wrong! foie gras. didn't take any but my mum had 3 portions. chef's recommendation tenderloin. really loved this dish. tastes like arena's (another tung lok restaurant) miso beef. but portion's really teeny (3 thin measely slices). the shark's fin, which i didn't eat. my family didn't like it. they said that tung lok's shark's fin is bad across board. peking duck, another disappointment. no cucumber, little sauce and very fat. black pepper beef. we don't really like the chinese wok fried style. braised cod fish. but seemed more like fried. fresh prawn salad. no one really gave any really positive or negative comment about this, so i guess it was ok. soy sauce chicken wing. very nice. tender and it wasn't too salty. poached prawns. we ordered this only at the end and my sis and dad regreted not having it earlier on when they were not that full. i absolutely adore this! custard bun. it's not like the typical custard bun you have at dim sum places in singapore, which is made of salted egg yolk. this one is sweeter and more like a bakery concoction. now for the desserts. mango pudding. unique, served with mango sago and strawberry. aloe vera with lemongrass. not for me. the lemongrass is a bit too strong. but my dad had 2 portions, so i guess it's good if you like lemongrass. cream of pumpkin with purple rice. variation of bubur hitam. at first it's quite a startling change, but you get used to it after a couple of bites. double boiled red dates and fungus. my mum said it's a good dessert for hot weather. overall, the presentation sucks and the service was really bad. had to keep calling them to fill water glasses. doesn't seem like they are short handed, but more like they don't notice. expected better since it's a tung lok restaurant, but they fell short.
