coach & fossil say hi to my new leather products! i have been wanting a coach wristlet since forever and nessa made my dream come through when she went to usa for her exchange programme. can't seem to get the exact shade of purple :( but i'm loving it! next up is the fossil watch that my mum got for me. this watch is pretty similar to my old one from solvil et titus. had to get a new watch because my watch strap is worn out already. the shade of brown is beautiful and reminds my of chocolate. also, the face of the watch is very classy. have been wearing it every day. i think at the moment, i'm not so financially comfortable that i can afford bags from high end brands like balenciaga and mulberry. however, small buys like wallets and accessories, and mid-range brands like fossil, are still within my reach. have been eyeing this card holder from kate spade :) Labels: shopping Sunday, June 27, 2010 @ 11:15
a day at city hall yesterday was a great day :) had one last day of fun before school starts. first, sis and i went shopping at raffles city and marina square. hit accessorize, mango, crocs and muji. had a wonderful harvest: 2 sweaters, 1 three-quarts, 2 pouches, 1 bag (love it!), a new pair of shoes and birthday pressies for my students. so after lugging around my spoils, i decided we need to get off our feet and give my aching shoulder a rest. to recharge, we gorged on... hot and spicy buffalo wings at billy bombers! 6 whole wings for only $13.90! can't fault billy bombers for their generous servings, even an appetiser has to be shared. the waitress was really considerate, she gave us a huge stack of napkins and wetwipes. next, we walked around, collected our movie tickets and went to durty nelly's to wait for our parents for dinner. the main reason why i chose durty nelly's was its steak out all-day weekend special! any steak (ribeye, sirloin, tenderloin or t-bone) with 2 side dishes and a choice of sauce for only $18 nett! how worth it! i was surfing marina square's website and came across this. then i checked hungrygowhere and people were raving about it, so our minds were made up. mum, dad and i ordered the tenderloin. it was a huge chunk of meat, my favourite kind. the doneness was just right. my dad ordered medium rare and you could see the nice redness in the center. sis ordered fish and chips, not so much of a carnivore. for dessert we had fried mars bar with ice cream. we told our dad to try it as he's a sweet tooth and you can hardly get sweeter than that. we rushed for our movie later, the karate kid, and made it just in time, at the end of all the advertisements. i didn't really want to watch the karate kid after reading the reviews on the newspaper. however, i'm glad my sis persuaded me. i have never watched the 1984 one, but jaden smith is such a natural. the movie is funny and heart-warming. also, you could sense the bond between smith and jackie chan. although the movie is 2.5 hours, you don't feel the duration at all. time passes when you're enjoying yourself! hong kong day 6: shueng wan day 6 was a short one, despite the fact that our flight was at 8pm. seeing that, we had to check in 2 hours ahead and grab dinner, we had to leave our hotel at 5pm. we met at 11am, so we could sleep in after a long day and went for some dim sum at sheung wan. it was recommended by my sis's friend. a traditional dim sum restaurant, where we had to share tables with two other groups. waitresses pushed carts of steaming hot dim sum out of the kitchen and people rushed to them, shouting their orders and pushing the slips of paper for the waitresses to stamp. it was chaos. worse still, the food wasn't even good. it was overpriced. parv didn't even eat anything as it was so messy she felt that there was a film of pork over everything. i agree. even i doubted their cleanliness. after that, we strolled along soho, hit h&m and spent 2 hours there shopping! before we knew it, it was time to head back to our hotel to collect our luggage. this time we took the tram back. i was grateful that it wasn't packed. usually, when trams passed us in the morning, we could see people inside squashed against each other. this time, we even had the luxury of choosing seats. it was a cheap way (hk$2) of gettting across the town centre. what we did before collecting our luggage was to grab our last cup of yakult lemon juice with jelly at comebuy opposite our hotel. i'm still missing it. it's so sad that all bubble tea shops in singapore sell the same thing. they should start thinking out of the box and come up with interesting flavours. that's all for hong kong. as i keep saying, 6 days is too short a period. i wished i had extended the trip, but i was already running out of money. so maybe next time :) Labels: family, food, friends, holidays Friday, June 25, 2010 @ 20:17
hong kong day 5: ocean park was so looking forward to this day since the beginning of the trip! a full day at ocean park :) everyone woke up early. we caught bus 629 from admiralty. since the park opens only at 10am, we took the bus at 9.30am and managed to reach just on time. it's extremely important to go as soon as the park opens, because we managed to catch the interesting rides twice before it got crowded around noon. another cable car ride. we took it to the peak, where the rides are. it was a rather long ride and i was amazed by the area the park spanned. when we got to the top, we immediately headed for the 360 degree roller coaster. however, there was something that caught my eye. the owl stuffed toy! i made it my goal of the day to win back one. we sat the roller coaster twice, the viking twice before heading for the giant drop. loved the viking, would have sat more times but matt and sis were impatient and wanted to sit the giant drop. later, we queued about 45 minutes for the mine train. it was probably the best ride in the park. fast, with slopes and turns, very thrilling. however, due to the long wait, we decided not to take it again. to me, the most magnificent thing about ocean park was that all rides have a view. we went to atoll reef during feeding time next. it was very crowded, people kept shoving. couldn't even stop to enjoy the fishes as i was being pushed along with the masses. never again would i want to experience that again. couldn't even get out and had to go through all four levels before exiting the place. we took the cable car down to see one of the main attractions--giant pandas! but we were derailed by my sis, who wanted to see the attraction of how to train your dragon. there we got to sit on the dragon with a green screen at the back. these were some of the pictures. then we got distracted, this time by me! i spotted the owl stuffed toy again! together we pooled together hk$165 to play the games. this game was easier than the rest. there's a technique to getting the bottle upright using the string, stick and hoop. after you place the hoop over the bottle, you pull it sideways and downwards instead of upwards. we won 3 medium owls (circled in red), 2 small dragons and 1 owl key chain just at this booth! we split the winnings and i got a medium owl and the owl key chain, which i gave to my niece. finally, we made it to the giant panda enclosure. they were so cute! the male was huge and lazy (first 2 pictures). the female on the other hand, kept tempting us with short views of her by walking around the top of the enclosure and returning to her house and doing it repeatedly. we left around 5pm, went back to the hotel to freshen up before making our way to kfc for dinner. currently, they are having this wings special. you can to try all their different flavoured wings--wasabi, sweet and sour, chilli pepper, hot and flava roasted wings. instead of coleslaw and mashed potatoes, they serve their meals with chicken stew rice. tasted like mash potato sauce with rice and some bits of chicken on it. i'm biased, so the wings were delicious! sis and matt had it too and they enjoyed theirs too. hong kong day 4: lantau island again, parv and i went to explore wan chai on our own before meeting sis and matt in the morning. we turned onto a busy street, where there were wet and street markets. it was where we found our breakfast location. we tried their chee cheong fun, together with soybean drinks and you tiao. it was too much for the two of us, would have been sufficient if we had one less you tiao. upon meeting up with the duo, we left for ngong ping. took the mtr to tung chung station. it was very near the airport, you could probably spot it a few minutes into the ride on the airport express from the airport. we had to take the cable car up to ngong ping. there are two kinds of cable car, the normal kind and the crystal cabin. the main difference between the two types, other than the price, is that the crystal cabin has a clear bottom. didn't think it made much of a difference, so we chose the normal one. it was all clear and sunny until we starting up the mountain... it was so misty we could hardly see the cable car in front of us. we felt cheated. they should have notified us when we bought our tickets that it was cloudy on top. since it was so foggy, we settled on lunch, hoping that the skies would clear up in the meanwhile. had some ramen. the soup was not thick enough, parv and matt had to add soy sauce and chilli powder. then we hit the store next door, honeymoon dessert, for some dessert. i think there's an outlet at vivocity, but i haven't got to trying it, so here we were in hong kong with time to kill. the durian pudding was actually a pudding with a hole in the middle filled with real durian. i found it nothing special. parv tried glutinous rice balls with peanut. it is like the tang yuan we have at home, just without any filling inside. disappointing :( even after wasting so much time, it was still cloudy when we trudged our way to the big buddha. if not for the signs and the crowd streaming there, we wouldn't even find it. it was so foggy, we only managed to see it right at the foot of the statue. in addition, we had to climb 224 stairs. wow! talk about a workout after a full meal. slowly making our way down with trembling legs, we took bus 21 to tai o village. my mum told us it was a must-visit place. when we got there, it was like a dying town filled with stalls hanging dried seafood. as i dislike seafood, the smell was disgusting to me. had to cover my nose the whole time. after about 10 minutes of walking around, there was nothing to see or buy, so we made our way back to the bus station and took bus 11 to tung chung. the bus took about an hour, my bladder was bursting by then. we dashed into citygate outlets to relieve ourselves. over there, we spent 5 hours shopping! that without a doubt perked us up! you will pass citygate outlets as you get off the mtr and head for the cable car. the mall is full of factory outlet stores of even big names like kate spade and coach! we got so many stuff there for low prices. talk about a good bargain :) Labels: family, food, friends, holidays |
