breakout It's been a really hectic week with school winding down, o level invigilation and driving lessons. And now i have a bad runny nose and pimples across the forehead due to accumulation of dust from packing. We're moving! Tuesday, October 26, 2010 @ 20:39
pretty toes yes i went for another classic pedicure at ladyfinger, jurong point again! everytime i go there, i get completely new clothes for my alien-like toes. the combinations are always unique there and so far, i haven't had a single repeat of colour or design. this time i opted for something more natural with a pale florescent pink base, aqua glitter lining and white flowers in the middle. the pale pink gives the illusion that my nails are healthy looking and the nail art chosen worked really well with the colours. very satisfied :) Labels: pedicures Sunday, October 24, 2010 @ 18:45
south america: part 2 welcome to the second edition of my parents' trip to south america! one of the hotels they stayed at. according to them, the hotels are spacious there and properly furnished, some with a homey feel. almost all the hotels that were included in their trip were five stars hotels. wind vane, set against a cloudy sky, on the top of the hotel. and guess what? llamas grazing at the front yard. one of the new seven wonders of the world, the renowned machu picchu, an ancient inca set founded by american historian in 1911. lake titicaca, the highest lake in the world and also the largest lake in south america. wild guinea pigs, which live under the boardwalk at lake titicaca. boats and island made of reeds. it floats and there are people staying on it! diego armando maradona, one of the greatest footballers of all time. looks really like him! one of the many beautiful and vibrantly-coloured houses there. a dog walker, can imagine it as a nightmare for my muslim friends. tigre delta, the second longest river after the amazon. a road side stall. yup that's all. last part coming right up! my dear colleagues featured are few of the people who have made teaching enjoyable the past year. sometimes i feel like i might not make it through if not for them! love them! they are a fun bunch. although they often make fun of me and laugh at me instead of with me, they have been encouraging and supportive throughout the year. very patient with my ignorance and mistakes! first driving lesson i know i'm way behind most of the people my age when it comes to driving. 24 is a bit old when it comes to learning driving, especially when most of my peers started learning how to drive the moment they turned 18. however, age didn't matter when it came to enjoying my experience. my turning was good, my braking horrid and laughing at myself fantastic. can't wait for the next lesson! ootoya and ichiban boshi meal 1: we had japanese food rather regularly this week! i have wanted to try ootoya @ orchard central since reading reviews at hungrygowhere a few months ago, but never found the time or company. my sis went down that day with matt to try and came back with a positive response, so off we went for a family dinner on one of my sis's day-offs. the restaurant is located on the eighth floor of orchard central. although the layout of the shopping centre is confusing, other than ootoya, there are many fine food finds there! the restaurant isn't very big. there is a huge table as you enter ootoya, almost like a communal table, where you share it with many people. that was the seat offered to us and we took it. those sitting on the inside had to take off their shoes and climb in, not suitable for girls wearing skirts. i had a hard time deciding on what to eat. the menu was organised by type of meat e.g. chicken, pork, beef, seafood, so for fussy eaters like my sister and myself, it was easy to zoom straight to the items we could eat. that being said, everything looked so good i had to ask the waiter for a recommendation. my dad had the grilled pork with their special sauce. the pork was tender but the special sauce nothing really special. i have no idea what the sauce was, it was quite sweet and sticky but taste-wise nothing memorable. i had the grilled chicken with sweet sauce. the chicken had this fantastic charcoal grilled taste. i loved the vegetables as well, simply cooked but crunchy and so appetising. did i mention the rice were white, puffy and you could count the individual grains? it's so rare to experience such great japanese rice in singapore. i ate two bowls! ootoya offers free refill of rice and green tea. my sis had this during her previous visit and she recommended my mum to order it. similar to my dish, hers featured the grilled chicken. the only difference is the sauce and salad. the chicken was drizzled with basil sauce and accompanied with sliced hard-boiled egg on the side. the greens were those you find in most western restaurants like wild rockets and such. all sets came with main course rice and two appetisers. the only appetiser i ate was the chicken with lotus but it was cold! i have never liked my food cold except for dessert. my sis had this seafood dish, not sure about the name, but it was greatly endorsed on hungrygowhere as well as by the waiter. it came with a rice on a dim sum rattan container, topped with scallops, as well as a vegetable soup so thick it looked like stew. it was a pity that out of the many delicious looking desserts, there were only two available that day, both with green tea items, so only my sis ordered. there were rice dumplings, green tea jelly, red bean and green tea ice-cream. she loved it and didn't even used the sweet sauce. meal 2: today, i met up with dad and mum at jurong point after my sharing session at nie for some more japanese food. ichiban boshi's $5 tea time offer is back again from 3-5.30pm every weekday! they have a new range of sodas, all i would order if i could. the waitress told me the first one was a popular pick, had orange puree, strawberry syrup, soda water and sprite. i didn't find it all that good. the flavouring was not enough and for all the simple ingredients it was pretty pricey at $4.60. mum ordered the eel set. she complained that the rice was cold and the serving small. i do agree that the serving was pretty small but for $5, what can you expect? dad and i ordered the beef set and it came with a whole lot of beef! however, the beef and soup were both salty and i felt very thirsty after the meal. last but not least, dessert, which arrived in the form of a scoop of vanilla ice-cream over a sprinkling of cornflakes and lots of strawberry sauce. i was a bit appalled when i saw the strawberry sauce because it wasn't very fluid, stayed in that exact same row, which was scary. however, it tasted normal. nothing very special but satisfied my craving for dessert. |
