hansang korean charcoal bbq @ holland village

i treated my family to dinner at hansang korean charcoal bbq restaurant at holland village early this week. i went there previously with siyu and sis but had no camera. so this time craving their beef ribs soup, i brought my whole family back there to try the scrumptious food and to take pictures. one stone kill two birds.

the restaurant has two storeys, so far i've only been to the first. the place is brightly lit with an urban decor. all tables come with a grill, so you have a choice of ordering food from the ala carte menu or their grilled specialties.

i loved the apple-kiwi juice during my previous visit. my sis loved it too. thus, this time both of us ordered it. the juice was freshly squeezed, sweet and really thick!

a normal practise for all korean restaurants, we got plates of appetisers immediately after placing our orders. the dishes were different from the first time we came here, but equally good. all appetisers were vegetable, so i was pretty picky with my choice. my family, especially my mum who's a herbivore, didn't have the problem.

other than my sis who ordered chicken kimchi fried rice, the three of us shared a grilled beef set. if i didn't remember wrongly, it was set meal c. the set meal came with the above, vegetable pancakes and fish fillet pancake. we ordered another serving of the fish fillet pancakes. there were chunks of fish in the pancake and little batter, which made it worth the money.

another dish that came with the set was the korean version of vegetable tang hoon. it wasn't very shabby but nothing to wow about either.

finally came the beef! along with the meat was a serving of fresh greens and mushrooms. we had the ribeye, both marinated and unmarinated. all of us preferred the marinated one, it was more succulent and flavourful.

i believe the waitress was supposed to do the cooking for us, but we ended up undertaking the act ourselves because she didn't seem to notice the meat getting cooked and we like beef medium/medium rare.

we expected steam rice but to our surprise we got purple rice! i've never had this before, it tasted like glutinous rice, just not as sticky, and it also seemed like a healthier alternative.

my sister's kimchi fried rice which came with a bowl of soup. the egg yolk was runny (the best kind) and she couldn't decided to break it and let it flow onto the rice or to slurp it up.

what a pity, we didn't manage to order the beef ribs soup. while the dishes seemed little when we were ordering, we really couldn't stuff ourselves anymore. maybe next time!
