hong kong dec: part 1

have finally edited all my photos! even my mum's asking me why the photos are not up on my blog yet. i think she's just anxious to see how her photos turn out. this is the first out of the six posts.

mum and i were kindly sent to the airport by dear old daddy (yes other than my philippines trip, he also sent my sis on her phuket one too. so nice right?) early in the morning so we didn't have to pay midnight surcharge.

upon reaching the airport, we were very happy to find the queue for the check-in counter almost empty. that was until we boarded the plane and realised that we were seated in the last row with non-reclining seats and next to the toilet (think flushing every five minutes).

it was 3.5 hours of smooth flying and we reached hong kong! i was madly starved by then and we had lunch at the first restaurant we saw, which was ajisen.

the menu wasn't totally similar to singapore. they had tom yum flavours (which was their usual soup with tom yum paste, not bad) and their beverages were suited more for asian tastes. bowls were huge as usual, and mum couldn't finish hers.

i didn't know that there was a straight bus from the airport to jj hotel, wan chai. during my previous visit, i took the airport express and had to walk pretty long to transit to the mtr. bus a11 stops at the street parallel to jj hotel (alight when you see caltex petrol kiosk) .

the bus was quite spacious and empty. plenty of space to put your luggages. cost only around 44hkd (which is less than half of the price for airport express).

i'm glad that i chose to stay at jj hotel again! the room is so clean and bright, gives really a very homey and comfortable feeling.

the room was smaller than the one i had in june, but a good size for hong kong and price i was paying.

we set down our bags and decided to do a walking trail from western market to soho. people please do not try this. the soles our feet were aching by the time we retired for the night.

nothing much to shop at western market. it's probably recommended for it's old architecture which stands out from the tall commercial buildings surrounding it. the only merchandise you can get there is bundles of cloth.

and of course during our long trek, we did some sightseeing of local street markets and high-end stores. and also shopping, of course.

with our poor hurting feet, we only managed to really hit one shop-- h&m. there wasn't much to buy because it's winter season and not suitable for singapore weather.

then it was back to the hotel and dinner nearby.

our first taste of hong kong food-- porridge, dumpling and soya milk.
