coming together it's very early i know but i already had my reunion meals with both my mum's and dad's sides! every year my mum's side eats early because there's so many of us! so we usually pick the weekend before chinese new year. event: maternal side reunion dinner date: 29 january 2011 time: 7pm place: teochew traditional seafood steamboat (176 joo chiat road) we were punctual and had to wait quite a while for the tables. apparently the restaurant manager said that customers were given a 15 min allowance for being late, so we customers should return in kind. first time i heard of such crap. we cousins have kind of coordinated our outfits for the first day of chinese new year, including activities to pass time e.g. monopoly deal (aka game of 2011) and catching a movie in the evening. event: paternal side reunion lunch date: 30 january 2011 time: 1pm place: indo padang (the cathay, b1-19 handy rd) got a very worthwhile deal at bigdeal.sg. bought $90 worth of coupons for only half the price! bigdeal.sg has fantastic money-saving deals almost daily. sign up to receive good offers, payment modes include paypal, credit cards as well as bank transfer. have already gotten another one for amici, holland village. the food was superb. i just needed to top up another $16 for the seven of us. how worth it was it? i'm getting old i think i'm showing signs of ageing. in the past, staying up the whole night during camps and chalets was a breeze. now just after a few days of activities, i'm ready to crash the very moment i get home. i'm really getting old. Sunday, January 23, 2011 @ 10:08
bosses @ vivocity went to bosses yesterday for dinner with dad and mum. they had spent the whole day at universal studios and i met them at vivocity after they were done. we planned on eating sushi tei, but the queue was very long, so we went over to bosses. the ambience at bosses was very classy, sheathed in elegant black all over. the occasional spotlight presented a very secret veneer. the starter changed from the last time i patronised the restaurant. it just to be fried vegetable sticks, now it has upgraded to fried fish slices. found it pretty weird to be eating fish skin. the only thing that lived up to the beautiful facade of the restaurant was the beef noodles. it came in a humongous bowl, good for two. i couldn't get enough of the soup, was hoarding it all through dinner. then came the prawns which were an offer item there. and then came the part which ruined my whole meal. i was told not to take any pictures of their food. being overly suspicious aren't they? and not really keeping up with times. food blogging by word of mouth is one of the best and cheapest (think free) way of advertising. furthermore, if you are talking about keeping recipes secret and such, how do u replicate a dish based on a picture? there were a few dishes that came after that anti-climax, namely mei cai pork and san bei chicken, as well as tou fu spinach. they were all presently nicely (too bad no pictures. yes, i am still peeved about it), but the food was only average. the mei cai tasted like seaweed and there wasn't enough spice for the chicken, more like an abundance of basil leaves. the price was reasonable, but i think my parents would still prefer their favourite hangout at vivocity--sushi tei. pretty inn nails just had my first pedicure at pretty inn nails, hong leong gardens shopping centre! i happened past the shop on the way to dinner and decided to do some research first before trying the place (still having a package with ladyfinger). the place looks nice in picture and their 'about us' was rather persuasive, so i made a booking through their website (under online booking). i would definitely recommend you to call them to make a booking because it took them almost three days to get back to me. i was wary when i got there today. the place was much smaller than expected (based on the pictures on their website) and i was their only customer. however, the staff was really friendly and they actually talked me through the different pedicures and nail arts. in the end, i decided on classic pedicure ($30) and nail art ($20 for full set). and here is the final result: i love my toes! their 2d nail art is nothing to rave about, but the 3d ones are very pretty! they are also currently having a promotion of classic pedicure and manicure at only $38.80 (for after chinese new year use)! from 21/1/11 to 2/2/11 there would be an additional chinese new year surcharge and they would be operating extended hours from 24/1/11. XXXXXX went for lunch with dad, mum, joyce and mike during the weekend at namaste india, serangoon. honestly, if i had known we were going to eat vegetarian, i would have either persuaded my mum otherwise or given it a miss. the food was passable, but i left the place feeling famished (yes, defeats the purpose of eating). what do you expect with a carnivore in a vegetarian restaurant? movies & kki cakes change isn't always welcomed. sometimes too much change brings along chaos. so to relieve stress, my colleagues and i went to catch a movie yesterday. jake gyllenhaal is so drool-worthy! the movie had too much nudity (which i think was rather unnecessary) and i think by now almost the whole world has seen anne hathaway's boobs. she has a thing about flashing her boobs in movies. wonder why she needs to do that when she's such a great actress? that aside, the story was very sweet. what a nice romance movie. next, it was vcd time: the a team. nope, not the old one. i'm talking about the remake featuring liam neeson, bradley cooper and jessica biel. the dialogue was a bit too soft and action very loud, so i had to alternate the volume between scenes. huge action movie with comical moments. thoroughly enjoyed it. while watching the movie, my sis brought home cakes from kki. delicious! my cheesecake souffle was very light and fluffy, literally melted in my mouth. sis refused to tell me the price, just that it was "not cheap". can't complain, it was good! |
