wild goose chase? after my six periods back to back, i returned to the staffroom to find an envelope on my table. of course my curiosity was piqued and i opened it to find a clue to my personal treasure hunt created by my dear EL department! i had mai to help me along as i was taking too long to find the second clue! together, we trekked through the cubicles. i was amazed she kept mum the whole time haha. i had to make a trip downstairs to the hod room too! after making sense of all the one-word clues like mamasan, butterfly, poison, i finally found my hidden presents! a customised cushion, collage made my mai and sent to the manufacturer by maria. more about the item in the box later :) i was so touched by the effort put in by my colleagues! it's been a few days after my birthday and i totally did not expect any more surprises! i love you guys! after that tiring adventure, i rushed for my classic mani-pedi appointment at pretty inn nails. it's my third time there and i don't think i have ever posted any pictures about it yet, so here they are. the place is rather small and cozy, tucked into the corner of hong leong garden shopping centre. there is only space for three pedi chairs, so don't expect too much in terms of space. however, the size does not affect the quality of the service or even the range of colours offered. this time i tried this beautiful dull metallic purple tone for my toes. really unique shade, so different from the usual glossy colours. and for my nails... the new black shatter by opi! i was so mesmerised by it! you paint it like a normal colour and after just a few seconds, the colour starts separating and becomes like cracked pieces of a whole. pretty inn nails is having a promotion now for mothers' day. for this long weekend, bring your mother along with you and get your second set of classic man-pedi for 50% off! pretty inn nails now for my presents... really loving the cushion. i'm hugging it now as i'm blogging this post. definitely something i'll treasure forever! everytime i look at the cushion i'll think of you guys :) what about the item in the box? here it is! the grand 25th part 2 of the birthday post! was pleasantly surprised when i got on the bus to join my sis after school. there was this HUGE bag on a leg and when she passed it to me, this was all i could see... then during the 35 minutes journey, i slowly unwrapped the gifts and they were all things i like! more on the pressies later. we took the bus all the way to raffles city, where we ate and splurged! wonderful takopachi from the basement. thank god there was no queue. while waiting for my gong cha. it was really a humongous bag which i was alternatively carrying and lugging around. a side note: i will never drink gong cha at raffles city again! i ordered lemon juice with aiyu jelly and white pearls and there was no lemon juice at all! after telling the staff, they made a new one for me and it was exactly the same. just sugar syrup and toppings. after that i got so pissed off i just threw it away! a pressie (bag charm) i got for myself at accessorize with a really cute necklace which i hope to wear soon and take a picture of. this was part of the present from my sis--a hand knitted shawl from her! love the intricate details. thanks cheeks! we met our parents for dinner at watami. can never get over how huge the servings are and that their set meal for two is almost good enough for four! watami salad. enjoyed how the tuna added texture to the salad. black pepper beef with rice in hot pot. a pseudo seoul garden self-cooking concept. unagi roll which i didn't eat at all. salmon nabe. my personal favourite! you should try these beef cubes! totally succulent! tori karage, wasn't as good as i remembered. last but not least, another cake! a apple cheesecake from cedele. can't get enough of their cakes, they always taste so good. moving on to the good stuff... say hello to the new addition to my menagerie. i've been eyeing the white stuff toy for very long and my sis got it for me. from matthew: a water gun which holds up to 1.1 litre of water and can shoot up to 12m. a very handy anti-bird weapon! from sis: bruno mars cd, his music rocks! and utensils from my friends. i bought an aviator for myself at raffles city! have been wanting to get a good pair for very long and this pair really suits my face shape. just today, i received yet another present from my colleagues that i went batam with! i love the microphone pen so much i brought it with me to class haha! the students love it too. after much help from mai, i finally got the box assembled and now my chops are so neat! yes, you can tell i'm a stamp fanatic :) that's all for this year's birthday! i thoroughly enjoyed myself! my 25th overdose of pictures coming up! it's been a fantabulous 25th birthday, with celebrations by family, friends and students :) so many pictures that i have to break the post up into two. this has probably been the best birthday ever! firstly, my darling clique met up for dinner the day before my birthday to celebrate. despite everyone's varied working schedules, we all managed to convene at jones the grocer, mandarin gallery for dinner. lil's pasta, one of the specials of the day. the pan came smaller than expected, yet the serving was filling. lil felt the cheese was not melted enough and the pork sausages tasted more like ba chor mee (minced pork noodles). i, on the other hand, chose the rib eye. a carnivore never strays far from red meat. the shade of the meat was paler than expected, however, it was tender and went really well with the bernaise sauce. bryan's chicken thigh. two huge thighs at that! was probably the best of all the dishes that night. angelo's wagyu beef burger. felt it was a waste that wagyu beef was minced and made into a patty, they should just have served it as a steak burger, but that would probably be very expensive. raspberry cheesecake, one of my favourite kinds of cheesecake. the raspberry jam layered crust reminded me fondly of arnott's tartlets which can no longer be found in singapore :( definitely not a restaurant to frequent (except if you are very rich) and if i wanted a steak, i would go to the steakhouse. however, i have heard many great things about their sandwiches and all day breakfast, so i'll probably make a return trip to try those. early on my birthday, i was surprised by my class with this beautiful cake! they did not make it themselves, but they had painstakingly designed it at icing room, jurong point. just look at how pretty the cake is! my sweetie-pies! mutilated cake to serve the majority. here's the card that went with the cake. so heartwarming! then, next was a surprise sprung by my colleagues. they are definitely a wacky bunch and i don't know how i will get through any school day without them by my side! when i reached the door of the staffroom, they gave me a string to follow and i wound round the tables till i came to a vacant table and this was what i saw! another mutilated cake haha! the occasion was definitely made special by all the people who tried to spice things up! more pictures coming up tmr...
