turkey day 4: cappadocia the door to our hotel room opened directly to the swimming pool and also a bird's eye view of cappadocia. the locals do not pronounce it as 'cap-pa-do-ci-a', but 'kap-pa-do-kya', which means 'land of beautiful horses'. we had to wake up at 4.30am for our hot air balloon ride and look at how bright the sky was. we took voyager balloons, which wasn't one of the highly recommended companies. but due to the fact that the better companies were fully booked, we had to settle. instead of a balloon of 12-16 as promised, we were in a balloon for 22 people and it was hard to take pictures. it got cloudy real soon and we had to make an emergency aka hard landing after 30 minutes. and wait in the rain for another half an hour for the bus to fetch us. what a disappointment. we returned to our hotel for breakfast before starting on our day tour. when you go to cappadocia, do bring along trekking shoes, you'll be doing A LOT of walking. trust me, based on experience, sandals are a NO-NO. our guide showing us what cappadocia is--right in the middle of turkey (anatolia). fairy chimneys are caused by brittle rocks and shaped by wind over the years. doesn't the rock look like a camel? local fare for lunch. loved the yoghurt soup! after lunch, we went to goreme, one of the old cities there. and after a long day of walking, we pampered ourselves to a sauna, turkish bath, full body massage and a face mask. all for a very decent price of 60 euros. kelebek hotel offers excellent service and goes all way out to make you feel comfortable. they booked the whole bath for parv and i because parv is rather conservative and didn't want to share the area with other. the turkish bath is one of the most memorable experiences i had in turkey as i do not think i'll get to experience it anywhere else. i felt so relaxed, overindulged and well-scrubbed after. since the hotel restaurant was closed after our turkish bath, the hotel staff led us over to the restaurant at sultan cave suites for dinner. again, tip top service. the food and atmosphere was awesome, but the pasta was unlike the pasta we usually have. it's really soft and a bit mushy.
