vampire diaries

i am extremely hooked onto this tv series called vampire diaries right now. i know i'm a bit slow, since it aired in 2009, but i'm making up for lost time! the series is based on books by l. j. smith, one of my favourite authors when i was young. i've never read her vampire diaries series, but i have read her night world series and have the collections of the dark visions and the forbidden game trilogy.

so according to wikipedia:

The series follows the events in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a fictional small town haunted by supernatural beings. The main focus of the series is the love triangle between the female protagonist Elena Gilbert and Stefan and Damon with dark pasts.

but other than the love triangle, which doesn't seem to be showing much of at where i am at (season 1 episode 15), there are many other underlying supernatural issues happening in the town. her best friend, a witch, is grappling with her powers. i also read that someone is going to turn into a werewolf and there is just so many enemies of the vampire brothers visiting the town! what a horror love fest!

nina dobrev, who plays elena and her malevolent ancestor katherine.

paul wesley, who plays stefan, the good brother. he broods a lot in the movie.

ooo... and i saved the best for last! absolute hottie ian somerhalder, who plays the bad brother. sigh, such an eye candy!

here's a picture of all three together. i'm so addicted and it's killing me to know what's going to happen next! apparently, there's season 3 already!

lots of good stuff

enjoying whatever temporary reprieve i can get from teaching, until the end-of-year exams when the whole lot of marking comes in and drowns me. so this is what i did during the weekend.

1. watched johnny english reborn @ gvmax

it was just another movie about a bumbling fool, whose ineffectual competency eventually ends up in him solving the big case.

2. dinner @ shabuya

we had dinner at this place which my mum had been talking about. it's actually a restaurant split into two, one side is a grill and the other, steamboat. we chose the steamboat section.

we had two types of soup as well. shoyu for the vegetables and chicken broth for the meat, not that the waiters actually explained.

we had the shabu-shabu set for four, which was good even for six. it took forever for the five of us to finish all the meat.

salad had almost non-existent dressing.

parents enjoyed the sashimi.

two plates of each type of meat.

fish paste wasn't memorable.

this was what i found really delicious. the ice-cream mochi was extremely refreshing after consuming so much meat without any water to wash the taste off.

oh ya, before i end off about the restaurant, the restaurant does not serve water, iced or hot. what a downer.

you see that big bag? i bought lots and lots of things from diaso! and here are my spoils.

3. dessert @ igloo

matthew treated us dessert at igloo. i think this place will not survive for long. not only have they lessened their variety of toppings, now they do not even let you take your own toppings, which was the draw of igloo in the first place. this totally goes against their promotional effort of 'buy 2 get 1 free'.

4. the great disappearing act

when we got home, we found the hamster cage opened! brown lump escaped! we tried finding her, turning things upside down, opening cupboard doors, but we just couldn't find her! then dad got lucky again and found her in the kitchen.

after her great disappearing act, we placed her back into her cage and she started stuffing her cheeks full of food, hoping to be able to make a second attempt. epic fail. but so cute!

i uploaded the video of her with big cheeks, but i'm not sure if it's successful since i've never managed to upload one. enjoy!

bather's again

another family dinner with all four present at bather's. dad's treat as i collected a book for him while my parents were in turkey.

the quesadilla tasted a bit like crisp roti prata with extremely healthy filling.

mum's special of the day. lobster with catch of the day, red emperor.

sis's cod fish. sometime i can't abide the taste of cod as it's very oily.

dad's fillet mignon.

my special order, aglio olio with fish. at first the fish was moist and flavourful, but some were undercooked. after they returned the dish to me, the fish was dry and not very tasteful.

we headed next door for dessert at the daily scoop.

the lemon sherbet was very sour, but sis loved it. i enjoyed my avocado, quite a rare flavour at ice cream parlours.

ramona and beezus

just finished watching this movie which aired last year, starring selena gomez and a little bright actress called joey king. the movie is about a young girl, ramona, with an over-active imagination. the story was based on a book by beverly clearly. it was very heart-warming and touching.

i think we can all identify with the precocious character, that one point in our lives we would have over-reacted or over-thought things. i just found myself smiling and laughing to myself throughout the movie, sometimes tearing. and best of all, it has a happy ending!

yoshimaru @ holland village

more food! ramen stall at holland village called yoshimaru. the restaurant is under the same group as jumbo and jpot.

first time i tried this. grinding sesame seeds to add flavour to the soup.

very filling meal. overall, noodles were chewy and portion generous. there was a variety of soup, but by the time i got to eating my noodles, there wasn't much soup left.
