shin yakiniku

another deal i got from bigdeal.sg... shin yakiniku at the village, opposite jurong bird park (yes that was the nearest i got to the bird park since forever).

the deal was wagyu beef smoke-less bbq at $29.80 per pax. yup, not one of their cheapest or better deals, but the beef was the draw for me. i ordered two coupons for the three of us and the portions were just right.

the restaurant's fairly new and also because of it's inaccessible location, not very frequented.

the set came with the following:

appetiser.

miso soup.

sushi.

and lots of meat: chicken thigh, chicken breast, pork collar, pork belly, wagyu beef, rib eye, chicken sausage and pork sausage.

the bbq was totally and absolutely smoke-free! you do not get the smelly or greasy feeling of eating a bbq.

one of the trademark dips, made by a japanese master. works really well with the beef.

ice cream as dessert. mine was raspberry ripple. reminds me of all the old time ice cream flavours.

my parents weren't really impressed by the restaurant but they did admit that the smoke-free element was unique.

michelangelo's

went to michelangelo's at chip bee garden during the weekend for some relaxing family chill-out time. before this trip, my only experience at chip bee was daily scoop, which isn't all that extraordinary or uncommon.

we chose to sit outside, of course.

other than the usual olive oil and vinegar, the restaurant offered olive paste (top most) as a spread for the bread. although it doesn't look appetising, it was yummy.

dad and i chose the french onion soup.

sis and mum had the salami goat cheese salad. the goat cheese was very strong.

mum's seafood pasta. the pasta tasted very homemade and made my mother think back about the homemade pasta she had in south america.

dad's lamb chop which was very tender and juicy.

sis and i ordered barramundi. it seems to be a popular choice of fish for restaurants nowadays, making its way into menu of bakerzin as well.

profiteroles.

last but not least, our tea and coffee.

seeing that i live so near holland village and have been frequenting the place at least once a week, i will probably be back to try their signature linguine tandoor soon.

outing with my students

i have a couple of posts which are long overdue and i was just too busy to edit the photos, upload them and blog.

early in the week, i had an outing with some of my students at vivocity. we had a grand time, mostly they were snapping pictures like paparazzi and joking around. we had an early lunch, shopping time and movie watching: big momma.

definitely not a first choice for me (or second, or third) but it was what they wanted to watch. quite funny at certain parts, but plot was definitely typical and predictable.

i had my bubble tea fix at gong cha. love the lemon juice, which was totally not sour because i had 100% sugar and the ai yu jelly tasted like the fantastic one at comebuy, hong kong. almost up there with the pear fruit tea from a gantea.

after that i did some marking at starbucks while waiting for my friends for dinner. delicious apple fritters!

as well as ogling at my day's shopping.

dinner with jackie and caroline was at bosses. it was their first time there as they thought the restaurant looks very expensive and had never dared to try it.

other than the usual la mien that jackie and i had, caroline ordered their seafood ying yang soup with rice. it was gigantic! the portion was good for two. it was served with rice crispies on top.

we also ordered their signature durian (mao san wang) souffle balls, which didn't taste as good as it did previously.

went home and immediately sorted out what i bought that day. i totally adore this travel organiser which allows you to pack your clothes, toiletries and other small stuff separately. got it for mini-toons!

ipoh hor fun @ holland village

mother and daughter favourite haunt at holland village. awfully cheap and tasty chicken ipoh hor fun :)

tried their soy chicken ($5) this time. couldn't really taste the flavour of the chicken as it was overpowered by the sauce as well as the huge amount of chilli i added. besides, there were lots of bones, it's safer to just stick to the original shredded chicken.

the original ipoh hor fun ($4).

the restaurant is right next to the famous katong laksa stall, opposite provenance. in addition the the affordable rates, the restaurant is also air-conditioned!

some updates

met up with my clique for lunch at cedele, raffles city. lenard left early and the rest didn't turn up. so it's just the usual three of us.

we are always given the seat next to the cedele sign next to the entrance. it's fated.

my one true love: aglio olio topped with grilled white fish and pesto sauce.

tried a new cake: chocolate lemony cake. wasn't really for me, the chocolate wasn't strong enough and the lemon flavour didn't gel well with the cake.

ending my post off with a pair of crocs slippers my sis bought for me...

i have no idea why my legs appear so dark here.

learning journey to stomp

call me sua-gu, but i was really excited to go down to stomp and razor.tv for our learning journey! i've been to sph building before because my sister works there, but it's different to be invited to see things behind the screen.

some shots with my good friends and close colleagues before we left school:

we met the editors for asiaone and stomp for some introduction and q&a first. i didn't take any pictures as it was dark and it seems rude to take photos with flash.

after bringing us around to see their office (totally inspired by their open workspace and potted plants everywhere), we headed to the studio where they do their filming.

the lights were really strong. i could feel the heat after just a few seconds. it's amazing people can sit there for half an hour to film. but one does look good under the strong lighting.

now we know how newscasters read their lines. it's a screen reflected onto a dark glass with a camera behind.

of course, we couldn't resist taking the seats ourselves :)
