day 2: kuala lumpur

woke up bright and early the next day, which was our only full day in kl. we planned this day to be indulging and a chance to spoil ourselves.

first, we headed for the buffet breakfast at chatz brasserie. the seating area in the restaurant was quite big. there was also a variety of food. there were japanese (sashimi, red bean pancakes), western (omelette counter, waffles, french toasts), oriental food (fried beehoon, chicken porridge), etc. the food wasn't terrific but it was above average. besides, the spread made up for it.

the pastries available at breakfast. looks good but didn't taste good. it was cold and hard. so skip this if you're staying in parkroyal. everything else was ok.

after breakfast, we went to the malls near our hotel to shop. as mentioned in the earlier post, there was nothing to shop. the clothes and accessories were backdated and surprisingly pricey. for the prices, i'd rather shop at topshop (it was that high). so, ending our failed shopping expedition, we went to mandarin oriental hotel for our high tea.

the hotel was really classy and the one thing i didn't like was that they allowed people to smoke in the restaurant. spoiled the whole experience. a high tea set there cost 60rm (sgd$24.70), came with a pot of tea and array of pastries and goodies, good enough for 2. we ordered 2 sets and as determined as we were, we still couldn't finish them.

didn't like the english high tea set, we actually preferred the oriental one! the macaroons were as hard as stones and after a while, everything tasted the same. however, the english tea choices all sounded so good and there were so many, we spent 15 minutes just choosing.

the oriental set came in a cute box. top layer: satay, ketupak and honeydew sago with vanilla ice cream; second layer: kuehs and banana cake; third layer: carrot cake, curry chicken and chicken murtabak; fourth layer: chicken pau, char siew pau, curry puff and glutinous rice. yummy!

finishing our big meal, we went back to the hotel to rest for a while before making our way to st. gregory for some pampering.

staying at parkroyal is really great! we had 20-25% off all restaurants as well as 20% off spa packages at st. gregory. each of us chose 2 spa items (e.g. facial, massage, body scrub) and it came up to 216-250rm (sgd$88.90-102.90) only! the service was divine. kanch and i fell asleep and 3 of us were sad to leave.

next on the itinerary was dinner at bossa nova. it was a brazilian themed restaurant and served an assortment of meats and seafood. the restaurant had a dance floor and a live band. the buffet costs 78rm (sgd$32), free flow of appetisers, main courses and desserts. since we were staying in the hotel, we received 25% discount!

the food was marvelous and the service was first-rate (the waiter actually shelled and cooked a new batch of prawns for my fussy friends). however, the restaurant was empty and there were just a few couples there other than us. i loved the beef! i just can't rave how good it was. it is rare that restaurants do medium perfectly and theirs was just nice. definitely recommend this restaurant!

needless to say, we slept very soundly that night!
