les bouchons rive gauche it's a long weekend of food, since dad's birthday falls within a few days of fabian kor kor and cousin wanqi. so we had like mega celebration. i'll be updating meal by meal. first up, dinner on friday at les bouchons rive gauche, 41 robertson quay, right along the river bank. i actually went to check how to pronounce the name. it's pronounced le bu-shaun (not sure about the third word) gohsh, meaning left side of the river, which is really apt given the location of the restaurant. the prices are a bit on the high side, about 30 plus to 40 plus per main course. however, they all come with a salad and free flow of fries. and their fries are possibly one of the best i have ever had. golden brown, crisp and salty. yum! they have indoor and al fresco seating. we sat indoors. it was quite modest, had only a few tables but better lighting. sitting outdoors is fine, especially for the atmosphere. enjoying the scenary and cool breeze, however i hate finding my food in the dark, so it was a no brainer. my sis's grilled tiger prawns. she said the prawns were well grilled and fresh. the shells came off quite easily. they were so good by themselves she didn't even squeeze the lemon. she felt that the meal would have been better if the fries came in a basket like my dad's because the juices from the prawns made the fries soggy. my lovely medium beef fillet. omg just looking at the picture and thinking back make me salivate. it was tender, slightly charred on the outside and a bit bloody in the middle. delicious! went really well with the grain mustard. i'll definitely be back for more! my dad ordered the xl rib eye. it was huge. took up the whole plate, hence his fries came in a basket. he didn't enjoy it. a lot of fat and he spent the whole meal sawing the fats away. by the time he got down to eating, his steak was lukewarm. the birthday boy with his highly anticipated dan brown novel, waiting for dessert. we ordered the peach melba and creme brulee to share. my sis with the peach melba. it was gigantic. they were generous with the vanilla ice cream. personally, i didn't like the taste of the ice cream. it wasn't totally original vanilla or even french vanilla. there was some flowery aroma, which made it quite hard to swallow. my sis and i just had the poached peach. my dad on the other hand finished all the ice cream. the creme brulee was marvelous. they added grand marnier to it and it was a little bit of sweet and a little bit of high. normal creme brulee with a twist. it was also quite gigantic, so we were really glad we only ordered two desserts. this is unquestionably one dish to have there. the bill came out to $180. well, it was a $180 well spent. not a place i would frequent often due to the price, but certainly a place to splurge for a nice meal or special occasion. a picture next to singapore river to end off a delightful evening!
