turkey day 8: selcuk-ephesus-selcuk we went to the house of virgin mary, which was supposed to be her last residence before she ascended to heaven. there were many tourists there to pay respect at the shrine. we weren't allowed to take pictures inside. drank some holy water. and wrote down some wishes on the wall of tissue paper. spotted some weird english expressions. later, we went to ephesus to see the library of celsus. the library once stored 12,000 scrolls! statue of nike, god of victory. these holes were toilets. in the olden days, toilets were social gathering places and in the winter, slaves were sent to warm the seats up for their masters. interesting huh? following that, we went to a small museum to see some artifacts. did you know that the first coins were made in turkey? right there in ephesus. ending of the day was an educational tour to a carpet factory. the carpet above is a silk on silk carpet and took about 3 years to complete! it's probably worth millions of dollars. and when we went back to our hotel... we found the nicest towel arrangement ever on the bed! for dinner, we walked down to town and found cafe celsus. they had lavazza coffee and huge meals. i thoroughly enjoyed my movenpick fried ice cream!
