turkey day 10 : canakkale-troy-gallipoli-istanbul after seeing brad pitt in troy, i couldn't wait to visit the ancient city! do you know that there are nine cities of troy, built on top of one another?    the famous wooden horse. according to our guide, in the epic poem, iliad, written about troy, there was no mention of a wooden horse used to gain entry!  pictures of treasures dug up by a treasure-hunter who found the site.  two adjacent walls from two different cities.        a map demarcating the different cities. to the untrained eye, it is hard to differentiate the stones belonging to the different cities.  we had a break for lunch and ate doners!   to get to our next stop, we had to take a ferry. because we were leaving for istanbul immediately after our tour, we had to pull our luggages around with us.  met this really sweet girl on the ferry!   our guide then told us some gruesome tales about war world one and brought us to the site where many people sacrificed their lives.             trenches remaining from war world one.     and then we began our five hour bus ride to istanbul! |
