turkey day 11: istanbul our second last day in istanbul consisted of a half day tour and free and easy time in the afternoon. we went to a ruin which seemed ordinary at first, until they brought us into the dungeon. i didn't take any pictures of the dungeon, because it gave me creeps. apparently, they used to bring prisoners in the olden days to kill them. they will drop them down this hole that leads all the way to the ocean. following that, we went to the chora church, which had the most wonderful mosaics! i was just basking in the glory of beautiful artwork. next, we went to church of st george, which is the principal greek orthodox church in istanbul. this is a fragment of the pillar of the flagellation where jesus christ was tied to. there was a wedding there that day, so we couldn't really take many pictures. after we were dropped off, we headed to the spice bazaar. where we got awesome turkish delights, apple tea and nuts. we then went for a late lunch at subway. they had an interesting choice of sauces. dessert at a roadside stall. and grand bazaar. i didn't really like grand bazaar as it was very modern and felt more like a shopping centre than a bazaar. we didn't buy anything there. dinner at macs! they had the most delicious lemon cheesecake milkshake! last but not least, we went for a whirling dervishes ceremony. it was interesting at first, but after half an hour of seeing them twirl on the same spot, it got boring. it was an eventful second last day!
